Best for
  • Teams that need self-hosted, watermark-free short-video production with data staying local
  • Developers who want AI assistants (e.g. Claude Desktop, Cursor) to drive the video pipeline
  • Operators producing e-commerce, UGC ad or faceless vertical content
  • Individuals who want a zero-key path using free footage and free TTS first
  • Hevy PRO users who want AI assistants to directly access their workout data
  • People who prefer using MCP clients like Claude, Cursor, Codex for fitness tracking
  • Anyone needing summaries and insights from their training data
  • Scenarios needing clean, structured web context fed to an AI assistant
  • Users already on the Firecrawl platform who want to call its scraping capability directly via MCP
Not for
  • Enterprise production environments needing official commercial support or SLAs
  • Users expecting high-quality AI-generated visuals and native voiceover with no API keys at all
  • Users unwilling to run FFmpeg, Node or Docker locally
  • Users who want a fully managed cloud service with no local instance
  • Users without a Hevy PRO subscription (API key required)
  • Users who want to use the server without an API key
  • Those needing delete workflows (Hevy API does not expose delete endpoints)
  • Simple static-page scraping where you don't want to depend on a third-party API and incur call costs
  • Sites that explicitly disallow automated access (robots.txt)
Required permissions
  • Launch a local npx process (clipforge-mcp) over stdio
  • Read environment variables CLIPFORGE_BASE_URL, CLIPFORGE_LLM_BASE_URL, CLIPFORGE_LLM_API_KEY (secret), CLIPFORGE_LLM_MODEL
  • Access the HTTP API of the locally running ClipForge service (default http://localhost:3000)
  • Make network requests to the configured LLM endpoint when set, for script generation
  • Use FFmpeg on the ClipForge instance for local video composition and read/write local data files
  • Requires HEVY_API_KEY environment variable for Hevy API authentication
  • Can create, update, and replace workouts, routines, folders, templates, and body measurements via tools
  • Read operations can fetch workouts, routines, folders, templates, history, and user info
  • Requires a Firecrawl API key to call; cost and quota are governed by the Firecrawl account
  • firecrawl_agent/firecrawl_interact perform automated browser interaction, which may trigger login or form-submission flows on the target site
Risks and side effects
  • CLIPFORGE_LLM_API_KEY is a secret credential; leaking it lets others consume your model quota
  • When external LLM endpoints or paid AI models are configured, script and asset calls may incur usage-based costs; paid generation is designed not to trigger silently
  • AI-generated content faces platform compliance rules (AIGC labeling, advertising-law banned words); the project enables these defaults but does not replace your compliance responsibility
  • Free footage comes from third-party licensed libraries (e.g. Openverse, Wikimedia, Jamendo); verify each license and keep attribution before commercial use
  • If the local instance is exposed to a network, others may call it and consume your model quota
  • API key can be misused if leaked; do not expose in URLs, logs, or screenshots
  • Create operations may produce duplicates on retry; update operations replace existing records
  • The server sends data to the Hevy API and may send telemetry to external services unless disabled
  • Bulk crawl/map tools can generate significant request volume against a target site — respect the site's rate limits and terms of service
  • firecrawl_agent's interactive action chain is longer — define task boundaries clearly before running it to avoid accidentally triggering actions on a sensitive site
